The innovative BX1 squeezes the performance of a much larger speaker into a format that's easy to enjoy anywhere in the home. A wider more consistent frequency response from its C-CAM® drivers will give you the fidelity and bandwidth you'll need to liberate the essence of your music and film favourites, while leaving the choice of installation options wide open. The two-way BX1 utilises a single 140mm (5 1/2") C-CAM® bass-mid range driver and 25mm (1") C-CAM® tweeter in a system designed to defy the usual size/performance assumptions.

Ceramic-Coated Aluminium/Magnesium is a material originally developed by the aerospace industry for jet engine components. Its properties are ideal for loudspeaker cones being extremely rigid, yet light enough to yield high overall efficiency. In manufacture, aluminium/magnesium alloy undergoes a three-stage stress-relieving process to remove surface deformation and molecular weakness. Once formed, the alloy cone is subjected to a high temperature anodic coating process in which a layer of pure ceramic alumina is depleted onto its surfaces to a depth of 50 microns, producing a completely rigid sandwich of alloy and heat-dissipating ceramic material.
Conventional cones are liable to flex or twist in operation, producing a significant level of audible distortion. C-CAM cones have a much higher resistance to bending stress and therefore exhibit much greater fidelity over their entire operating range. C-CAM tweeters and woofers share an audible consistency producing a smooth transition of frequencies and a sense of realism and cohesion in the soundstage.
The gold dome tweeter is formed from a ceramic-coated aluminium/magnesium alloy, gold anodised to a specific thickness for ideal stiffness and damping characteristics. Its new profile and surround geometry have been developed using advanced modelling tools, to provide the optimum qualities for accurate sound reproduction. The new design moves the first order of breakup to beyond 35kHz, producing a linear response way beyond audibility, which matches the wide frequency bandwidth available from HD music and cinema sound formats.
The gold dome is thinner, lighter, more rigid and therefore more efficient than domes made from other materials which are prone to distortion in the audio band.
A new type of port technology which uses a straight rifled design to accelerate air flow and reduce turbulence. HiVe II technology has the ability to move air in and out much quicker than a conventional port, the result is fast powerful bass coupled with superior transient response.

"Compact; smart design; clear midrange; decent bass depth and control; good scale."

I own a pair of Monitor Audio Bx5 as well and all I can say is that the BX1s really rock. I love doing sound comparisons between the two sets and I can say that for such a small speaker they give you a large full sound with great detail and clarity, I think if i had heard the BX1s first I might not have even given the BX5s a listen as they really did it for me. Dont be fooled by their size!

Chuffed with the voluminous sound generated by such small speakers. From everything from bass-heavy songs such as "Supermassive Black Hole" to acoustic numbers like Led Zeppelin's "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You", my BX1s have never failed to prove seriously impressive.
