The slender BX5 represents a careful re-tuning of the acclaimed BR5 floorstanding model, adding further bandwidth and resolution to a recognised class act. Its sophisticated 2 1/2-way system of twin 140mm (5 1/2") C-CAM® drivers and 25mm (1") C-CAM® tweeter is perfected through a series of internal chambers providing the optimum operating environment for each driver and lending further rigidity to the cabinet. For such a modestly priced speaker, the BX5 is exceedingly coherent, having the transparency to expose the texture of complex musical passages and the control to communicate the natural dynamics of every performance. Astride the driver-matched BX Centre in a multichannel system, the BX5 will deliver a captivating blend of stratospheric highs, percussive mid-band and gripping bass extension for mesmerising three-dimensional AV fidelity.

Ceramic-Coated Aluminium/Magnesium is a material originally developed by the aerospace industry for jet engine components. Its properties are ideal for loudspeaker cones being extremely rigid, yet light enough to yield high overall efficiency. In manufacture, aluminium/magnesium alloy undergoes a three-stage stress-relieving process to remove surface deformation and molecular weakness. Once formed, the alloy cone is subjected to a high temperature anodic coating process in which a layer of pure ceramic alumina is depleted onto its surfaces to a depth of 50 microns, producing a completely rigid sandwich of alloy and heat-dissipating ceramic material.
Conventional cones are liable to flex or twist in operation, producing a significant level of audible distortion. C-CAM cones have a much higher resistance to bending stress and therefore exhibit much greater fidelity over their entire operating range. C-CAM tweeters and woofers share an audible consistency producing a smooth transition of frequencies and a sense of realism and cohesion in the soundstage.
The gold dome tweeter is formed from a ceramic-coated aluminium/magnesium alloy, gold anodised to a specific thickness for ideal stiffness and damping characteristics. Its new profile and surround geometry have been developed using advanced modelling tools, to provide the optimum qualities for accurate sound reproduction. The new design moves the first order of breakup to beyond 35kHz, producing a linear response way beyond audibility, which matches the wide frequency bandwidth available from HD music and cinema sound formats.
The gold dome is thinner, lighter, more rigid and therefore more efficient than domes made from other materials which are prone to distortion in the audio band.
A new type of port technology which uses a straight rifled design to accelerate air flow and reduce turbulence. HiVe II technology has the ability to move air in and out much quicker than a conventional port, the result is fast powerful bass coupled with superior transient response.

Hi-Fi Choice Magazine's BX5 Review
The Monitor Audio BX5 displays it's all round ability in the most recent HiFi Choice magazine group test, earning the title of "HiFi Choice Recommended".
David Price said “It throws out masses of detail, yet really rocks when called upon to do so. It's a great all rounder”.

Bronzes get a gold star
'The easiest £500-ish floorstanders to live with we've heard in a good while - which is why these elegant Monitor Audios score the full five stars...Smooth looks and finish; unified, controlled and unthreatening sound'

Standing Ovation
"The BX5 is a fun budget floorstander. Graced with a big sound yet a strong sense of balance and control it works well as a high fidelity all rounder...So with a wide range of ability, from it's great sense of scale and control with big performances it will appeal to all those who like their music strong and fast."13 March 2013 David De Smet
I bought the BX5s a little while ago. They replace my old Wharfedale Modus 5 pair who move upstairs. After a good auditioning in the store with my own music I decided to go for them. At home they were connected to my Technics A700MK2 amplifier and the sound was awful. It made me want to turn down the volume or even stop the music. There was an agressive sharp edge to the sound coming from my BX5s. Maybe they still had to be burned in. But I also ordered a new amplifier - the Yamaha A-S500. Once the BX5s and the Yamaha were paired things got so much better. The sound got so much more space. So in my opinion the BX5s are fantastic but I experienced that you have to be careful with matching them to other material as an amplifier. I have the impression the BX5;s need a somewhat more powerful amplifier.

Monitor Audio? More like Monitor Perfection. Just changed from B & W 603 S2's to MA BX 5's. They are simply superb, especially at the price & so much smaller. Don't waste time reading reviews & comparing the BX 5's with other makes - just invest in these. Was looking at Rega, Neat, Castle & Kudos. Some of these are over double the price of the BX 5's, but sound no better. Really pleased.

I have the BX5's with a Quad 606 & 405 pre-am combo and mainly listen to them through my Linn LP12. Even matched with this 'old' system they produce an excellent sound stage with real depth. They perform well listening at all volume levels and above all else, I really enjoy listening to music again.

These BX5 speakers are amazing, very well built, with an accurate almost warm sound at all levels, with a range of different music, movies & gaming. After previously owning a pair of Mission MX3's I thought that they could not be beaten in the same price arena, but I was wrong, very wrong. Well done Monitor Audio!!

My system is in the budget area of Hi-fi. ARCAM CD73. ROTEL RA05 Se and Monitor Audio BR5. My BR5's are nearly 4 years old now and I can't praise them enough. I could go on about the stereo image, the timing and pace and the amount of detail they uncover from any recording, but what still pleases me is the build quality, the fit and finish is still as good as the day I purchased them. I have owned many quality speakers over the years - Mission, Wharfdale to name a few, all of which had problems with finish. The BR5s not only sound good of course but they are built to last. Thank you M.A.
Custom-developed for Monitor Audio and utilising advanced simulation technology, the new De-Tox CD will help you to run-in your speakers in less time and more comprehensively than is possible with music or other burn-in signals.
