Your Speaker

The GX100 is a larger 2-way stand mount speaker featuring a 6.5" RST bass driver and C-CAM ribbon transducer. Operating with the performance of a typical 8" driver, our proprietary 6.5" design provides higher overall efficiency with dynamic headroom to deliver impressive bass extension and control. The GX100's uncomplicated 2-way configuration renders complex material with tonal accuracy and perfect timing. It may occupy the space of a stand-mount speaker, but the GX100 sounds like a reference floor-stander. Optional, dedicated floor stands are available.

  • New C-CAM® ribbon transducer design – providing extension to a class leading 60KHz
  • HiVe® port technology for better transient response and tighter bass
  • Single bolt through driver fixings for improved bracing, rigidity and driver/baffle de-coupling
  • Die-cast alloy terminal panel arrangement with high quality bi-wire terminals and high end spade type link cables
  • Pureflow® Silver internal cabling
  • Selected premium quality wood veneers or high gloss piano finishes.
  • Rigid 20mm MDF construction throughout, employing radial and cross-bracing techniques for high rigidity resulting in low cabinet colouration
  • Invisible magnetic grille fixing provides clean visual styling when used with the grille off

C-CAM® Bass Drivers

C-CAM® Bass Drivers

Refined over many years by Monitor Audio, Ceramic-Coated Aluminium/Magnesium is used as a driver cone material for all our speaker designs from the mid-market models up. Originally developed by the aerospace industry for jet engine components, C-CAM's properties are ideal for loudspeaker cones being extremely rigid, yet light enough to yield high overall efficiency. C-CAM bass drivers are able to resist the bending distortion imposed by sudden and extreme bass excursions to reproduce very clean, deep and dynamic bass frequencies. Conventional cone materials are more likely to flex in operation, producing a significant level of audible distortion.

Ribbon Transducer

Ribbon Transducer

Monitor Audio's proprietary ribbon tweeter design uses an ultra-thin sandwich of C-CAM alloy suspended in a powerful transverse magnetic field of high energy NeFeB rare earth magnets. The ribbon serves as both voice coil and radiating diaphragm, with every part of the ribbon driven directly and simultaneously without energy storage. Having a mass of just 18mg, its diaphragm is able to start and stop in an instant, producing a transient response capable of defining the leading edge and natural harmonic resonance of complex musical sounds. Specified to reach ultra-high frequencies up to an elusive 100 kHz, Platinum’s magical ribbon tweeter will reproduce with ease every last nuance and detail from vinyl, CD, DVD-A and SACD, together with the wider bandwidth of Blu-ray.

C-CAM® Drivers

C-CAM® Drivers

Ceramic-Coated Aluminium/Magnesium is a material originally developed by the aerospace industry for jet engine components. Its properties are ideal for loudspeaker cones being extremely rigid, yet light enough to yield high overall efficiency. In manufacture, aluminium/magnesium alloy undergoes a three-stage stress-relieving process to remove surface deformation and molecular weakness. Once formed, the alloy cone is subjected to a high temperature anodic coating process in which a layer of pure ceramic alumina is depleted onto its surfaces to a depth of 50 microns, producing a completely rigid sandwich of alloy and heat-dissipating ceramic material.

Conventional cones are liable to flex or twist in operation, producing a significant level of audible distortion. C-CAM cones have a much higher resistance to bending stress and therefore exhibit much greater fidelity over their entire operating range. C-CAM tweeters and woofers share an audible consistency producing a smooth transition of frequencies and a sense of realism and cohesion in the soundstage.

HiVe II Port Technology

HiVe II Port Technology

A new type of port technology which uses a straight rifled design to accelerate air flow and reduce turbulence. HiVe II technology has the ability to move air in and out much quicker than a conventional port, the result is fast powerful bass coupled with superior transient response.

RST®

RST®

The RST cone profile comprises a radial pattern of surface dimples. Our simulations and listening tests have proved that the dimples significantly increase cone rigidity allowing C-CAM/RST cones to resist mechanical bending forces, which can twist the shape of lesser cones and produce distorted sound. The strengthening effect of the RST dimples means that we can use thinner, lighter more responsive C-CAM cones, providing speed and accuracy but offering greatly reduced distortion. The RST dimples also help to displace standing waves that can propagate on the cone's surface.

Gramophone GX100 review

Classical music industry leading publication - Gramophone reviews the Gold GX100, with results we're equally impressed with...

Here's just a snippet "And the GX100s' take on 'as they should' is undeniably impressive: this is a fast, dynamic, exciting loudspeaker design, capable of remarkable slam and drive in the bass, along with seamless integration through the midband and on up into one of the sweetest, yet most explicit, top-ends around. The music is never any less than entirely controlled, and yet has that wide-open, rich, detailed presentation that just begs the listener to listen more closely to what's being played, revelling in the sheer amount of character and detail on offer."

GX100 Review by SoundStageHiFi.com

"...When I unboxed the review pair and discovered two of the most exquisite-looking, best-finished cabinets I’ve seen on any speaker near this price, or even double it. With most speakers, the first thing I do is rush to set them up. With these, I just wanted to sit back and look."

"I found its sound highly engaging, and capable of holding my interest. I was able to sustain my utter enthusiasm for its sound for long periods without ever getting fatigued...the buyer of a pair of Gold GX100s will be rewarded with something he or she can own and cherish for many years. Highly recommended."

Setting the Gold Standard

Home Cinema Choice magazine gives their verdict on the Gold GX Series with an all round 5 star approval across the board.

In the latest January 2012 issue of Home Cinema Choice magazine our Gold GX series was reviewed, tried and tested for performance, design and features and then rewarded with a fantastic overall review of 5/5 stars across the categories.

Here's a snippet taken from the full review "Running through Pirates...had me scribbling all sorts of notes ('huge, rich, foundation-shifting bass with power and grip'; 'nil flex on the 15in piston'; 'Exciting, musical and able to create a sense of scale'), but all you need to know is that I loved this system with a passion."

Remarkably clear and musical, the GX100's create a full sound with plenty of detail. They are beautifully made with lovely wood veneer complementing the simple styling of the drivers.

As good as they look it was the sound that impressed me most. I was really impressed by the stereo image and the ribbon tweeter positions of hi-hats, cymbals and acoustic guitars. It blends seamlessly into the natural sound of the mid/bass driver so voices, strings, guitars, and other instruments stand out from each other in a coherent image. Plenty of solid and deep bass from a reasonable sized cabinet.

Very good speakers at any sound level. As engaging for late night listening as they are when turned up. Thank you!
