"Monitor Audio is one of those well-established British hi-fi firms with a serious pedigree in designing and manufacturing quality speakers. As such, its i-deck 200 has quickly become popular amongst the discerning audiophile crowd.
As well as looking cool, the i-deck 200 genuinely does sound fantastic. Dual 100mm C-CAM bass drivers individually powered by custom-configured 50W amplifiers and 25mm gold dome tweeters, all driven by precision-tailored 20W power amps is why. But you don't really need to remember all of that! You just need to listen to it."

"Further adding to the Monitor Audio i-deck 200's prowess is the inclusion of an in-built DAC (digital to analogue converter), something that only the upper echelons of the iPod dock competition include. This bypasses the circuitry of the iPhone/iPod/iPad (deemed substandard for audiophiles) and takes the digital signal directly, using its own 28/56 bit dual precision processing to do the heavy lifting.
Also, an innovative Automatic Position Correction (APC) system configures the output of the i-deck 200 depending on where it is positioned. In the rear of the i-deck 200 is a mic which produces three frequencies pulses (70, 85 and 100 hertz) and their reverberations help the dock determine if it is near a wall or corner. If the power button flashes once no correction is added, twice shows it is compensating for being placed near a wall and three times if placed near a corner. APC only kicks in if the i-deck 200 has been disconnected from the mains as this leads it to assume it has been moved.
All of which suggests Monitor Audio should have created a superb sounding premium dock, and thankfully it has."

"Designed with high-end style to accompany premium substance the i-deck 100 is an all-round aesthetically pleasing piece of kit, capable of acting as a shelving unit’s focal point rather than simply another slab of lifeless black plastic"
"In terms of audio quality it is hard to fault the i-deck. Whilst sounds are detailed and diverse at standard and lower volume settings, pushed to the higher end of the volume spectrum the Monitor Audio dock comes into its own with deep, rich, audio unaffected by the distortion and warping found in so many of its competitors."

i-deck 100 Review by What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision
"One unique feature is the i-deck’s Automatic Position Correction (APC). When you power up the system for the first time it emits three different test tones. An internal mic measures these and either leaves the sound alone, or tunes it for being positioned close to a wall or in the corner of a room. We found the i-deck sounded best close to a wall up to around 30cm away. Taking the digital stream from your iPod or iPhone, the i-deck produces an open, spacious sound."
"Detail levels are excellent across the frequency range. Spin Maps by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the lead guitar sparkles, while the solitary vocal sounds expressive. Drums hit with precision and a sense of dynamism that some rivals find tough to match. The Prodigy’s No Good (Start The Dance) is a potent mix of rhythms and basslines, yet the i-deck laps them up, producing a splendidly attacking, rhythm-driven rendition of this club classic. Even at low volume levels, the i-deck’s dynamic capabilities shine through."
