Silver RX8 Review by What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision

"The RX8 is a two-and-a-half-way design and uses twin, 15cm bass drivers together, a 15cm mid/bass unit and gold dome tweeter. Considering the number of drive units being used, they show a remarkable sense of togetherness. Integration is impressive and all the drivers combine to leave a solid, seamless soundstage."

"High frequencies have a good level of detail and they're expertly controlled with no hardness to speak of. The midrange is similarly detailed: vocals are clear and crisp."

Hi-Fi Choice Magazine's RX1 Review

The Silver RX1 comes out on top in Hi-Fi Choice Magazine's Standmount Loudspeakers Group Test, scoring 5/5 stars with the following conclusion:

“It has the strengths of the super-svelte Dynaudio with most of the joie de vivre of the Q Acoustics. Everything you play through it sounds vital and engaging, subtle and detailed, polished and poised. It simply didn’t sound anything like a budget box.”

RX6 Review by Stereophile

US based Hi-Fi magazine Stereophile offers authoritative reviews, informed recommendations, helpful advice, and controversial opinions across the publication so when the Silver RX6s came up for review we were ready and pleasantly pleased with the results. Read the detailed review in the current June 2012 issue. Here's a few snippets:

“Through the Silver RX6s there was a real sense of instruments popping out of nowhere to rest on a bed of air in a deep, wide concert hall.”

“The Monitor’s high-frequency reproduction enabled perfect integration of the fundamentals and harmonics of the trumpet; Wynton Marsalis’s instrument on his Levee Low Moan (CD, Columbia CK 47075) was startlingly realistic: The Monitor’s integration of the horn’s dynamic envelope, timbre, and harmonics inspired me to scribble in my notes: “That’s a trumpet!”

“The RX6’s high-frequency purity nicely dovetailed with its perfect rendition of crisp, clean, fast transients on recordings with percussive content.”

"It was an ideal match for every type of music, from delicate female voices and jazz trios to bombastic orchestral and electronic rock music. And its small footprint, attractive but unassuming appearance, and clean, extended bass performance make it an ideal home-theater speaker: one that obviates the need for a subwoofer."

"I can’t think of another affordable speaker that better meets such a broad range of needs.”

Robert J. Reina. Stereophile, June 2012

RX8 Review in Hi-Fi News

The RX8 has trumped rivals to collect a ‘Highly Commended’ badge in February’s Hi-Fi News. Reviewer Adam Smith says “…not only do they have the biggest driver line-up, but the Monitor Audios also have the biggest sound of all the units on test. The Silver RX8’s are superbly dynamic, punchy and love to play loud…even better this was not all bang and boom, as the bass offered superlative levels of grip, punch and detail…they romp home with the ‘most speaker for your money’ award.”

Silver RX 5.1 System Review (Silver RX8 floorstanding speaker, RX Centre, RX-FX and RXW-12 subwoofer)

"Now more than ever, Monitor's determination to offer audio products that deliver high-tech engineering at a fair price is especially welcome, and there is no better example of this than the firm's newly released Silver RX."

"Look at this system, in particular, if you like the idea of mid-priced speakers that probe the limits of sonic resolution and detail in ways that will remind you of much higher-end speakers. Expect an accurate, sensible size and overall build quality; the Silver RX speakers are compact enough not to dominate a room, yet they'll treat you to lovely woodwork and drivers too beautiful to hide behind grilles (unless you must, to keep children's fingers from poking at them)."

Silver RX8 Review - Exceptional Performer by Chris Martens

".. but accurate tonal balance is only part of the story, because the Silver RX8 also offers excellent transient speed and definition, plus astonishingly high levels of resolution and detail. Put these qualities together and you've got a speaker that can dig way down into good recordings to retrieve layer upon layer of musically relevant details."

"In contrast to systems that have a subdued, comfortable, "polite" sound, the Silver RX8 system serves up high levels of refinement and detail with a real spirit of energy and gusto - a complimentary combination of virtues indeed."

This subwoofer is insane! I've just watched my first two movies with it and the power is incredible. Bass is tight and room shaking, while it has a relatively small footstep, it looks beautiful and is very easy to set up in your room. What can one want anymore? I am in love with it!

I am a professional musician and play the bass. I am always listening to the bass lines in any song and can clearly define a bass guitar tone, especially from the funk era. I have owned a couple of hi-end systems and sat in recording studios. I know how peace/instrument/vocals should sound. I bought these RX1 as a backup bedroom system, which i dont regret. At first the bass was nowhere, a bit to light, treble a bit harsh, bit colouration in the high-hats. After playing for a month, this speakers totally changed (4hours each day). No colouration in the bass and trebbles.. and the vocals superb. it doesnt drop that low, but instruments come to life on these.. I must say that I am totally impressed..i doubted it at first, but now I am sold..I even hear how radio stations mess up the sound (sorry engineers)

Many subs have come and gone in my system, and I do mean a lot. Some did a few things well and some did many things not very well. And to be honest, a few were near perfect. But there was something missing even in those. I could not sit back and say wow, that sound is perfect. That was until I purchased the RXW12. I cannot find a fault with them. They do everything I ask of them and then some. I have always purchased British speakers but this was my first Monitor Audio. What have I been missing all these years! Time to make the switch. Keep up the good work!

After previously owning a pair of MA BX5s and being absolutely 100% satisfied, I decided to upgrade to the Silver RX6 front speakers. Firstly the build quality is exceptional, wood finishes to die for. The amount of comments visitors give me is amazing. Then comes the Sound stage...WOW! Deep bass, and I mean Deep, demoing "Bass I Love You" through my Onkyo 609 is awesome. Yes of course you need a Sub, but to the none techy out there, trust me you wouldn't know any different. I am so happy yet again with "Monitor Audio" and I urge anyone serious about home audio to bag a pair of "Monitor Audio Silver RX6s" NOW!!!

I've had my RX6's for a couple of years now and I am still impressed every time I put some audio through my system. The RX8's were streets ahead of anything else I auditioned at the time, beautifully precise and, seemingly, not concerned with trying to be 'impressive'. My flat being small, I went with the smaller model with no regrets. One day when I change speakers, my first question will be, 'What does Monitor Audio have to sell?'

These RX6 speakers are absolutely (absolutely) stunning. I feel I've just woken up from years of sleep-listening. Been rediscovering many songs in an unbelievable fashion. It's hard to describe but the music seems to be coming from outside the speakers. An out of body experience that took me back to the sheer magic of the day I first plugged in my dad's old HIFI.

I bought these speakers for my stereo music listening after auditioning 10+ floor-standers. Some speakers were good at one thing, others were good at something else. These are the only speakers I found in this range that were good for almost every genre of music is listen to. I listen to wide genres of music and I feel these speakers are made just for me. But don't get these speakers wrong, they are great for movie as well.

These speakers are just superb. When used with music or film, they simply excel. With a Clear and crisp top end, focused mid range and controlled/tight bass - they are a very well balanced speaker.

As they are a relatively neutral speaker, they allow the recording and HiFi/AV equipment to display their characteristics very well.

On a different note, I had to contact Monitor Audio customer services a few months ago and I must say that the response was nothing short of brilliant. Communication over the phone and through e-mail was outstanding and the outcome as promised.

A brilliant speaker package, supported by highly impressive after sales support make buying Monitor Audio a very easy decision indeed.

I've owned these speakers for 10 months now, and in a lifetime of never being quite satisfied with my speakers, these RX6's have finally solved the problem. I've owned KEF, Tannoy, Mission, B&W and others. But The RX6's have been a revelation, at last I have a speaker which gives me everything that I want to hear. A clear and crisp top end, a rich, full mid-range and deep bass. But very well balanced with greta sound-stage, and sounds good with all sorts of music. The rich vocal timbre of June Tabor, the lighter voice of Kate Rusby. Grizzly Bear, Explosions in the Sky, Mark Elder's Elgar, Pappano's Puccini, Ibragimova's Bach and all of my Mahler and Bruckner. I'm occasionally surprised when the speakers reveal something that I haven't noticed in a recording before. Apart from that, they look really good. I use mine in a relatively modest sized room, about 4.5m x 4m, with 2.5m headroom and sloping ceilings from half way up the wall. I was concerned that the speakers may be too big for the space, but was re-assured that this would not be an issue - thanks John (Sevenoaks - Sheffield). I match them with an old Marantz 7200amp, and a 6002 CD player, not supreme hi-fi, but sure sounds good to me!

Both the RX6 and the RX8 sounded great at the store and I have to decide which to buy. They sound much better to me than the B&W CM series, which seems cold and sterile to me. However, I'm not happy with the color contrast of the white driver cones against all the different finishes. It creates a goofy look that challenges the discerning decorator who has to deal with the silly looking circles in the middle of the speakers. For the black speakers I would have preferred all black and for the white, solid black circles, not black outlines with white inside. This may seemed boring to some people, but from a decorating standpoint, would have made more sense. And it would have looked a lot classier too.

These beautiful white gloss standmount speakers not only look fantastic but after 100 hours are sounding better and better it seems every time i play my favourite cds i am hearing more than the previous time. The bass did take a while to loosen up and positioning from the wall is important but once you get it right it is perfectly balanced and very tight and articulate without being overblown. I love the midrange and bass a bit more than the highs but they are just great overall very happy indeed!! December 2011

I have been using the Monitor Audio RX2 speakers as part of a home theatre system for the last 6 months. I had previously been using the RX1's but found them lacking, so upgraded to the RX2'S which in my opinion is the best speakers in the RX range. I have a Yamaha RX-V3800 receiver that I know is a superb piece of equipment. My digital source is a Creek evolution CD player and my analogue source is a Project 2 Xperience Turntable with Grado Platinum Cartridge. I always still felt that something was lacking from the speakers. I contacted my dealer FUSE STEREO IN TEL AVIV and told him that I was thinking of changing my speakers to something like the JM Lab Focal Diablo's. He was quite willing to indulge my fantasies. He informed me though that if I was going to upgrade speakers to the Diablo's I would also have to upgrade my Amplifier accordingly. We agreed that I would come and see him on Friday (25/11/2011). I took with me my receiver and set out on what was to be an epic and ultimately mind blowing experience. As all who are obsessed with music and sound reproduction I am a member of various Forums. In an forum thread I asked if I would here a discernable difference between the Yamaha RX-V3800 and the Musical Fidelity A5.5 Integrated Amplifier for 2 channel playback. All answers lead to definitely. I went as far as to state that if I could not here a difference it meant one of 2 things, either the Yamaha was superb or my hearing was shot. The testing was done with a Musical Fidelity CD Player, Monitor Audio RX2 speakers which are my main speakers and of course the two Amplifiers. The disks used were 1: Carmina Burana (EMI) 2: The Track Tin Pan Alley, Stevie Ray Vaughn and 3: All for you Dianna Krall. These are disks I am very Familiar with. Tin Pan Alley is a very good track to use as it has good bass, Vocals, Excellent guitar work and a exquisite drum track. I was quite prepared to be critical and dismissive of the A5.5 as I know my Yamaha is a superb receiver but I did not know just how I was going to be proved WRONG. The A5.5 absaloodle ate the Yamaha for breakfast, lunch, dinner and in-between snack. the difference was quite literally night and day, from the bass control and depth to the sweet sweet top end, I was in music heaven. Needless to say I bought it on the spot. Just to clarify listening to the A5.5 brought out sounds I had never before heard on the discs. The Carmina Burana opening track was always harsh and strident through the Yamaha even in the dedicated listening room (I had always attributed this to the speakers) but through the A5.5 it was sweet and smooth. Now onto the RX2,S. I had been advised that with an amp of the quality of the A5.5 I would have to upgrade my speakers. I was already thinking along those lines as there were aspects of my sound reproduction that were not quite what I wanted. (I have been thinking of the Utopia Diablo's for a while but they are too rich for me.) As I sat there listening to the difference between the Yamaha and A5.5 I saw $,s with wings before my eyes but I resigned myself to the fact that I would be going home today with a new Amplifier and speakers. With the A5.5 hooked up to the CD player I began the listening session the same disks used to test the Amplifiers were used to test the speakers. First Listened to were the JM Lab Focal 807V Double the price of the RX2 Second the Proac D2 Nearly 5 times the price of the RX2 Third and Last JM Lab Focal 826W-30 Nearly 6 times the price of the RX2 I didn't want to spend so much but was prepared to if the difference was so significant. Well the difference was night and day. Believe it or not the RX2'S destroyed the other speakers ALL OF THEM. I was walking around in a state of shock unable to believe what I was hearing as speaker after speaker was eaten by the RX2. Not sure if was hearing things or if I had gone totally insane or deaf or both I asked Nissan (Proprietor of Fuse Stereo) if he was hearing what I was, it appears he was . Now I am not naive enough to believe that the RX2,s are the last word in loudspeakers but they are a damn fine speaker worth a darn sight more than the measly $1000 they cost, and as far as value for money goes probably very hard to beat. The A5.5 has brought out of the RX2's what I didn't think possible. To improve I will have to spend a huge amount of money
