Your Speaker

The elegant floor-standing RX6 design places the new wider bandwidth RX tweeter in concert with freshly designed 6” C-CAM® bass and 6” C-CAM® bass/mid drivers to form a balanced two-and-a-half way system. Separate chambers are used within the enclosure to provide differential tuning for the 6” drivers, producing higher efficiency and exceptional low frequency extension. For such a slim, easy-to-position speaker, the innovative RX6 produces an extraordinarily wide bandwidth, enhanced with a natural tonality that breathes life into every format – even HD audio. An adjustable base plinth is supplied for added stability.

Features

  • New C-CAM® tweeter design with damped rear chamber, providing improved clarity and wider operating range for HD audio formats
  • New 6” C-CAM® bass and bass/ mid-range drivers incorporate RST® technology, for better damping and improved mid-range clarity.
  • New cast polymer bass chassis design for better rigidity and lower reflection properties.
  • Dual Chamber Bass Reflex with Differential Tuning.
  • HiVe®II port technology for better transient response and tighter bass.
  • Single bolt through driver system, for increased overall bracing and rigidity.
  • Rigid 19mm MDF construction throughout, employing radial and cross-bracing techniques for high rigidity resulting in low cabinet colouration.
  • Floor level terminal location for easy access and neat cable routing
  • Invisible magnetic grille fixing provides clean visual styling when used with the grille off.
  • Selected premium quality wood veneers or high gloss piano finishes.

Technology

Gold Dome C-CAM®

Gold Dome C-CAM®

The gold dome tweeter is formed from a ceramic-coated aluminium/magnesium alloy, gold anodised to a specific thickness for ideal stiffness and damping characteristics. Its new profile and surround geometry have been developed using advanced modelling tools, to provide the optimum qualities for accurate sound reproduction. The new design moves the first order of breakup to beyond 35kHz, producing a linear response way beyond audibility, which matches the wide frequency bandwidth available from HD music and cinema sound formats.

The gold dome is thinner, lighter, more rigid and therefore more efficient than domes made from other materials which are prone to distortion in the audio band.

HiVe II Port Technology

HiVe II Port Technology

A new type of port technology which uses a straight rifled design to accelerate air flow and reduce turbulence. HiVe II technology has the ability to move air in and out much quicker than a conventional port, the result is fast powerful bass coupled with superior transient response.

RST®

RST®

The Rigid Surface Technology (RST) cone profile is inspired by the Japanese art of Origami, which demonstrates how a very light material (like paper) can be strengthened and made more rigid by making small and precise folds on its surface. Monitor Audio has applied this principle in designing the CAM/RST cones for the GX and RX ranges. Developed and perfected using sophisticated computer modelling (Finite Element Analysis), the GX mid and bass driver cones have been strengthened by a series of radial ribs; the RX driver cones by a pattern of dimples. Our simulations have proved that RST significantly increases cone rigidity, allowing the radiating surfaces to resist mechanical bending forces, which can twist the shape of conventional driver cones to produce distorted sound. The strengthening effect of RST means that we can use thinner, lighter and more responsive C-CAM cones, which provide speed and accuracy while offering greatly reduced distortion. The RST patterns also help to displace standing waves that can propagate on the cone's surface.

RX6 Review by Stereophile

US based Hi-Fi magazine Stereophile offers authoritative reviews, informed recommendations, helpful advice, and controversial opinions across the publication so when the Silver RX6s came up for review we were ready and pleasantly pleased with the results. Read the detailed review in the current June 2012 issue. Here's a few snippets:

“Through the Silver RX6s there was a real sense of instruments popping out of nowhere to rest on a bed of air in a deep, wide concert hall.”

“The Monitor’s high-frequency reproduction enabled perfect integration of the fundamentals and harmonics of the trumpet; Wynton Marsalis’s instrument on his Levee Low Moan (CD, Columbia CK 47075) was startlingly realistic: The Monitor’s integration of the horn’s dynamic envelope, timbre, and harmonics inspired me to scribble in my notes: “That’s a trumpet!”

“The RX6’s high-frequency purity nicely dovetailed with its perfect rendition of crisp, clean, fast transients on recordings with percussive content.”

"It was an ideal match for every type of music, from delicate female voices and jazz trios to bombastic orchestral and electronic rock music. And its small footprint, attractive but unassuming appearance, and clean, extended bass performance make it an ideal home-theater speaker: one that obviates the need for a subwoofer."

"I can’t think of another affordable speaker that better meets such a broad range of needs.”

Robert J. Reina. Stereophile, June 2012

Silver Rx - RX6 - Review

"I could make out the subtlest sounds in every scene, from the faint creaking and rustling of falling debris as the Sistine Chapel caves in, to the gentle background chatter inside important-looking command centres. If the devil is in the detail, then this system is Satan himself."

I bought these speakers for my stereo music listening after auditioning 10+ floor-standers. Some speakers were good at one thing, others were good at something else. These are the only speakers I found in this range that were good for almost every genre of music is listen to. I listen to wide genres of music and I feel these speakers are made just for me. But don't get these speakers wrong, they are great for movie as well.

These speakers are just superb. When used with music or film, they simply excel. With a Clear and crisp top end, focused mid range and controlled/tight bass - they are a very well balanced speaker.

As they are a relatively neutral speaker, they allow the recording and HiFi/AV equipment to display their characteristics very well.

On a different note, I had to contact Monitor Audio customer services a few months ago and I must say that the response was nothing short of brilliant. Communication over the phone and through e-mail was outstanding and the outcome as promised.

A brilliant speaker package, supported by highly impressive after sales support make buying Monitor Audio a very easy decision indeed.

I've owned these speakers for 10 months now, and in a lifetime of never being quite satisfied with my speakers, these RX6's have finally solved the problem. I've owned KEF, Tannoy, Mission, B&W and others. But The RX6's have been a revelation, at last I have a speaker which gives me everything that I want to hear. A clear and crisp top end, a rich, full mid-range and deep bass. But very well balanced with greta sound-stage, and sounds good with all sorts of music. The rich vocal timbre of June Tabor, the lighter voice of Kate Rusby. Grizzly Bear, Explosions in the Sky, Mark Elder's Elgar, Pappano's Puccini, Ibragimova's Bach and all of my Mahler and Bruckner. I'm occasionally surprised when the speakers reveal something that I haven't noticed in a recording before. Apart from that, they look really good. I use mine in a relatively modest sized room, about 4.5m x 4m, with 2.5m headroom and sloping ceilings from half way up the wall. I was concerned that the speakers may be too big for the space, but was re-assured that this would not be an issue - thanks John (Sevenoaks - Sheffield). I match them with an old Marantz 7200amp, and a 6002 CD player, not supreme hi-fi, but sure sounds good to me!

I LOVE these speakers. I received my order of two Monitor Audio RX6 "Silver" speakers the other day, and I am still marvelling at the sound quality they produce. Sooo much better than my previous (admittedly a bit old) speakers. I'm hearing things in my recordings I don't think I ever noticed previously. Well done, Monitor Audio!

I've had my rs6's for almost a year, and having been around high end audio for over 40 years, I can absolutely state they will blow any speaker in their price range OUT OF THE WATER! Stay away from the rs8's though-they sound muddy next to the rs6. The rs8's made me want to turn the volume down, not up.

Since my teenager days I was hooked to loudspeakers from T+A and I thought I might never find a match to them. Then I was introduced to the RX6 and bought then as soon as I saved the money. Thank you - they are the best listening experience I ever had.

Both the RX6 and the RX8 sounded great at the store and I have to decide which to buy. They sound much better to me than the B&W CM series, which seems cold and sterile to me. However, I'm not happy with the color contrast of the white driver cones against all the different finishes. It creates a goofy look that challenges the discerning decorator who has to deal with the silly looking circles in the middle of the speakers. For the black speakers I would have preferred all black and for the white, solid black circles, not black outlines with white inside. This may seemed boring to some people, but from a decorating standpoint, would have made more sense. And it would have looked a lot classier too.

I have had the RX-6's for 6 months and the RX Center for 4 months and am always amazed at the clarity and quality delivered. I just finished reading Stereophile magazine's June 2012 review and fully agree that dollars for dollar, they are among the best speakers sold. Thanks for bringing me back to music, but they also excel in home theatre use.

    Aboslutely fantastic!
I've always had very expensive speakers, such as Dynaudio Contour 2 or Celestion Ditton 88, and recently a pair of Focal 836V, but my first Audio Monitor (the Silver RX6), are better than all. So I decided to try the RX8, and if they surprise even me, I will go up a level in Monitor Audio's catalogue.
I found the company that makes speakers for me.
    Well done! Congratulations!

Great speakers for the money! Excellent detailed clear sound. Takes a couple of months to fully break in. Next time I would consider the Monitor Audio RX2 as well. I use my pair of RX6 with a Pioneer 1120K receiver (USA model) and a Rythmik Audio F12 direct servo sealed subwoofer (the combination sounds great)

These speakers are incredible creations. Their combination of neutrality, sound staging, imaging, and overall lack of distortion is amazing considering that they are very affordable. I find my natural oak pair very attractive too, as does my family. Kudos to Monitor Audio!!
